Dr. Leah Kaylor is a licensed clinical psychologist for the Federal Bureau of
Investigation. She specializes in trauma and sleep.
She earned her Master’s Degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Saint Louis University, and Postdoctoral Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Dr. Kaylor completed her residency at the Memphis VA Medical Center, where she worked in the sleep clinic helping veterans with sleep hygiene, nightmares, insomnia, and CPAP adherence. While in Memphis, Dr. Kaylor also provided psychoeducation, crisis response, and psychological debriefings to firefighters, law enforcement, and first responders.
Since joining the FBI, Dr. Kaylor provides therapy to agents and professional staff who have been exposed to traumatic experiences while on the job, such as shootings, graphic crime scenes, and viewing job-related child sexual abuse images (CSAM). Her go-to treatment approaches for processing traumatic events include EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Brainspotting. She has also aided in numerous psychological debriefings for some of the most impactful events in the FBI community’s recent history.
She has written 5 book chapters and over 15 peer-reviewed journal articles. She has spoken nationally and internationally to law enforcement officers on psychological topics such as trauma’s impact on the brain and body, rethinking stress, innovative trauma therapy techniques, healthy sleep habits, and how to maintain resilience when undercover, to name a few. She has also been invited to speak to FBI leaders, Five Eyes intelligence community, and foreign partner executives to address leadership topics such as creating a psychologically safe workplace, developing a growth mindset, and how to avoid thinking traps to stay ahead of the threat.
She has held adjunct teaching appointments at Saint Louis University, Waynesburg University, Montclair State University, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice where she educates students of all levels on psychological and forensic topics.
